RBI Commercial Boilers

Commercial Boilers – Domestic Water Heaters – Pool Heaters

RBI offers the most complete line of finned copper tube boilers and water heaters available today. Models are available to fit any commercial application, from atmospheric to fan-assisted sealed combustion in a wide 100,000 to 4,000,000 BTU capacity range.

RBI's commercial water heaters are the only units on the market that come standard with bronze headers across the entire product line. Greater installation flexibility is provided by left or right gas connections and left and right water connections. We do not use cast iron headers with glass or epoxy lining on any of our water heaters to eliminate worry about rusty or contaminated domestic water caused by lining failures in cast iron headers. Our "higher standards" in design do not translate to "higher costs" for our customers. RBI high quality water heaters are among the most competitively priced units on the market.

Commercial – Gas Fired – Condensing

Hydrotherm provides innovative solutions for the ever changing comfort needs of both residential and commercial boiler applications. Over sixty years ago, Hydrotherm first revolutionized the heating industry by pioneering the modular boiler to provide maximum efficiency and flexibility in commercial heating applications.

Today, as a Mestek company, Hydrotherm continues its innovative path with the KN Series – the world's first cast iron condensing boiler. KN Series units offer efficiencies of up to 93% and are available with outputs ranging from 200MBH to 2,000MBH. Units can be combined to meet the load requirements of any commercial heating application.

From residential baseboard to large commercial boiler plants, Hydrotherm has the product to meet your hydronic heating needs.

Boiler Backgroun

HydroTherm provides the KN Series – the world's FIRST cast iron condensing boiler.

Innovation sized to meet the modern day requirements of low fuel utilization, high efficiency, longevity and the small footprint demands of today's condensing commercial boiler market. KN-Series Boilers are available from 200MBH to 3000MBH.

The KN-Series boiler from HydroTherm is the first commercial boiler capable of realizing the high efficiencies of condensing applications using a durable cast-iron heat exchanger.

KN-Series boilers combine the condition-tolerant, heat-retaining characteristics of cast iron with the energy savings of fully modulating, high-efficiency condensing performance.

Application: Front-End Loading

With its patented cast iron heat exchanger and proprietary HeatNet control system, the KN-Series stands alone in its accommodation of front-end loading applications.

Front-End Loader

Application Overview

Front-end loading is a boiler configuration in which condensing units are combined with non-condensing boilers to provide the highest possible burner efficiencies under different seasonal or load conditions.

Lower Install Costs

Meeting total BTU requirements with a combination of condensing and near-condensing units lowers first costs: no reason to pay exclusively for low-input modulation capability when many periods will present high load conditions. Higher efficiency units can run during warmer weather to minimize fuel usage.

Non-condensing units would run in the heart of the heating season when higher water temperatures are required. With its small footprint and compatibility with various piping/water conditions and vent configurations, KN is unmatched in its ability to combine with other boiler types.

Lower Operation Costs

For retrofits or expansions where non-condensing boilers remain in operation, or for applications that regularly call for high domestic water usage, including a KN-Series boiler can bring a new level of efficiency during periods of low demand (depending on season, occupancy periods, etc.). Its intuitive, onboard HeatNet controller makes for simple connections to new or legacy systems, and is capable of acting as lead boiler or as one in a series. KN's Tru-Flow™ combustion ensures safe, clean operation.

Multiple Exhaust Venting Options

Compatibility with numerous venting configurations helps the KN-Series solve problems in real-world design/install scenarios.

KN-Series boilers can be vented as and combustion air can be piped directly from a fresh air intake or utilize mechanical room air* for combustion.

Fresh air intake can be done either through the side-wall or through the roof of the building for further versatility.

*Proper calculations must be performed to determine whether sufficient quantity of room air is available for proper combustion (see KN Boiler Manual).

Condensing Cast Iron Performance

KN-Series boilers represent revolutionary engineering.

Cast Iron Accessory

The world's first boiler to pair condensing performance with cast iron's durability. No other boiler can match it point for point when it comes to set-up, maintenance, and long-lasting performance. Not one.

All KN-Series cast iron sections are manufactured in the USA for durability and longevity by people with generations of foundry and manufacturing expertise in Boyertown, PA. All castings have precision machined ports for water tight joint seals and are rated at 100psi of working pressure. KN-Series boilers retain valuable latent heat energy for maximum efficiencies.

Long life and dependability.

HeatNet Logo

HeatNet provides an intuitive interface with plug-and-play connections to speed the set-up and diagnostic process for installing contractors. HeatNet is capable of operating Hydrotherm units as a stand-alone boiler, multi-boiler Master/Member network protocol of up to 16 boilers or to a Boiler Management System. The network can incorporate mixing of condensing, non-condensing boilers or base loading an existing boiler based on conditional and priority firing – all of which eliminate the need for an additional third party wall-mounted control platform.

Hydrtherm Control Panel

HeatNet Overview

HeatNet, RBI & Hydrotherm’s proprietary integrated boiler management system is the driving force behind Hydrotherm’s energy optimization philosophy for its high efficiency equipment and is standard equipment on all KN Series Air-Fuel coupled products. Designed for precise system control, Heat Net provides repeatability and feedback thru digital communication. The control monitors boiler temperatures and limit circuit inputs, maintains system and domestic hot water requirements, supports boiler room components including system/domestic pump, boiler pump, combustion air damper and modulates boiler firing rate to maximize turndown ratios in order to maintain peak efficiency.

Developed and manufactured by RBI & Hydrotherm’s sister company Mestek Technologies, Heat Net provides an intuitive interface with plug-and-play connections to speed the set-up and diagnostic process for installing contractors. Heat Net is capable of operating RBI & Hydrotherm units as a stand-alone boiler, multi-boiler Master/Member network protocol of up to 16 boilers or to a Boiler Management System. The network can incorporate mixing of condensing, non-condensing boilers or base loading an existing boiler based on conditional and priority firing – all of which eliminate the need for an additional third party wall-mounted control platform .

Building Management Systems

The control configuration “learns” the applications optimal firing rates by using microprocessor electronics to monitor time-average responses based on actual usage to determine the load for the system for optimal energy efficiency. Standard Heat Net controls use a Modbus protocol with optional ProtoCessor boards for BACnet and Lon Works based building management systems. Typical master/member systems using 2, 3 or 4 boiler configurations can see a total turndown ratio of 10, 15 or even 20:1!

Variable control settings for Mod/Max firing rates allow adjustable maximum firing rates (factory pre-set at 70%) enabling all boilers run at extremely efficient levels until all units in the sequence have fired at which time firing rates can increase above the standard setting to meet system demands. Firing rate is kept as low as possible to take advantage of increased efficiency at lower inputs. Boiler firing rotations can be programmed for first on/first off, first on/last off or “True Rotation” which rotates boiler run-times so that all units run for the same amount of time. The control incorporates a compensated output signal based on firing rate to modulate the local boiler pump for primary/secondary systems in order to maintain optimum boiler delta t.

Heat Net’s proprietary design allows for seamless flash drive or laptop driven updateable firmware adding continuous value and boiler system control without the need for physical control platform updates that can make some equipment obsolete. Electronics are located in a self-contained control enclosure through which all internal components and terminal blocks are easily accessed via a hinged, swing open door panel on the front of all units.

Boiler Background

For design purposes, both RBI & HydroTherm products have BIM Object Downloads available.

Building Information Model (BIM), which encompasses building geometry, spatial relationships, geographic information, and quantities and properties of building components. Typically it uses three-dimensional, real-time, dynamic building modeling software to increase productivity in building design and construction. BIM design tools allow for extracting different views from a building model for drawing production and other uses. These different views are automatically consistent – in the sense that the objects are all of a consistent size, location, specification – since each object instance is defined only once, just as in reality. Drawing consistency eliminates many errors.
